DPRK says improving people's living standards top priority

Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has said that improving people's living standards is the top priority of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the economic development must serve that purpose.
Kim, general-secretary of the WPK and chairman of the National Defense Commission, made the remarks during recent inspections to several factories in Jagang Province, the Rodong Sinmun newspaper reported on Saturday.
During an inspection to the September Textile Mill, he said it was the firm will of the WPK to provide the people with better clothes and stressed the need to promote textile production in order to solve the problem of clothing.
In the Jangjagang Machine Tool Factory, he said the DPRK's machine-building industry "has reached the world level."
Meanwhile, he said that the factory should continue making efforts to update technology in order to produce more modern machine products.
