Holding Fast to WPK's Line of Economic Construction Called for

Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- To preferentially develop national defence industry while simultaneously developing light industry and agriculture is the Workers' Party of Korea's line of economic construction in the Songun era. This is a strategic line as its validity and vitality have been proved in the practical struggle of the Songun revolution glorified with great victories and miracles.

Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed article. It goes on:

This line is a successful inheritance of the basic line of socialist economic construction the vitality of which has been fully proved in the drive to build a socialist power --independent in politics, self-supporting in economy and self-reliant in national defence--and it also represents the in-depth development of the basic line in keeping with the requirements of the times and developing revolution.

The line of economic construction in the Songun era serves as a treasured sword to win one victory after another in the drive to firmly defend the dignity and sovereignty of the country, a powerful weapon for bringing earlier the triumphant building of an economic power by pushing ahead with the overall development of the national economy based on heavy industry and correct guidelines for drastically improving the standard of people's living through the high-pitched drive to bring about a radical turn in light industry and agriculture.

The DPRK holds a full-fledged position as a country that launched satellites and had access to nukes and is demonstrating its independent dignity as an invincible socialist power. This is a shining fruition of the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il who set forth the line of economic construction in the Songun era long ago and gave top priority to the development of the national defence industry.

The DPRK is stepping up the modernization of overall national economy including machine building industry with a firm grip on the eminence of CNC technology. This would have been unthinkable without the guidance provided by the WPK to give full play to the might of the DPRK's economic structure with main emphasis on defence industry and heavy industry and remarkably boost the nation's economic potential with it as a powerful driving force.
