Month of Solidarity with Korean People Closes in Cuba
Pyongyang, August 8 (KCNA) -- The month of international solidarity with the Korean people was closed with due ceremony in Havana on July 30.
Attending the ceremony were personages of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, the Cuban Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification and the "Chollima" Shipyard of Cuba and other Cubans. The DPRK ambassador to Cuba and staff members of his embassy were present there on invitation.
Speeches were made there.
Juan Jose Leon Vega, first vice-chairman of the Cuban Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification, noted that the Cuban people and the world know well about the fact that the U.S. imperialists and south Korean puppet forces provoked the Korean War on June 25, 1950, adding that the U.S. imperialists suffered a shameful defeat for the first time in history and signed the Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953.
Recalling that President Kim Il Sung exerted his tireless efforts for the reunification of the country till the last moments of his life, he stressed that his cause of national reunification is now being creditably carried forward by General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
The Cuban people have always voiced full support to the Korean people in their struggle for achieving the independent and peaceful reunification of the country and will do so in the future, too, he declared.
Lashing out at the Lee Myung Bak group of south Korea for bringing the situation on the Korean Peninsula to an extreme pitch of tension through madcap exercises for a nuclear war, pursuant to the U.S. imperialists' policy, far from implementing the north-south joint declaration, he declared that no matter how frantic they may become in their war exercises for aggression, they are no more than reckless plays with fire.
He stressed that the excellent friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries provided by Fidel Castro and Kim Il Sung would last forever on the road of the struggle against imperialism.
The Cuban people will as ever make all efforts for the unbreakable friendship and solidarity between Cuba and the DPRK and extend full support and solidarity to the Korean people in their struggle for the independent and peaceful reunification of the country, he concluded.
