DPRK media urges Japan to settle historical issues*
March 01, 2011
Leading Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) newspapers on Tuesday urged Japan to settle accounts from its war crimes as soon as possible and abandon ambitions for further aggression.
In an editorial marking the 92nd anniversary of the "March First Movement," Rodong Sinmun denounced Japan for failing to admit its huge crimes against the DPRK and making no compensation to the victims, more than 60 years after it was defeated.
That Japan did its utmost to deny and distort history indicated its nature of aggression had never changed, the editorial said.
Japan's declaration it would dispatch forces to the Korean Peninsula to "rescue" Japanese hostages showed it planned further aggression, the commentary said.
It urged Japan to have a clear understanding of the reality and the anti-Japan mood among the DPRK people and abandon its ambitions for further aggression.
Meanwhile, Minju Choson newspaper said the DPRK people would never forget Japan's wartime atrocities, urging it to compensate.
The "March First Movement" was launched by the Korean people on March 1, 1919, to oppose the colonial rule of Japan.
