Like lemmings Labour give support to Cameron's war!*
With the international support for Cameron’s war already beginning to unravel, the lemmings who occupy the green benches in the House of Commons voted overwhelmingly to follow the British PM over the cliff. If anyone needs a clearer example of how our MP's have become unrepresentative of the country at large then it was this vote, 557 in favor of war and only 13 against. This vote is totally unrepresentative of the population at large when you compare it with a YouGov poll published in The Sun newspaper today which shows that 45% of people support the coalition intervention in Libya, but 36% think the war is wrong and 19% said they were undecided.
In another Poll survey, for ITV News, more than half of people believe British servicemen should not risk their lives protecting Libyan opposition forces. This ComRes poll found some 53% of those consulted felt it would be unacceptable for British personnel to die fighting for the Libyan opposition to the Gaddafi regime. Just one in three people (35%) agreed with the decision to take military action.
But according to the survey, nearly half (49%) of adults felt such intervention constituted an unnecessary risk for Britain.
If any one expected an ethical foreign policy from Ed Miliband, they will be bitterly disappointed for he lined up his charger alongside the war mongers Cameron and Clegg. Once again the British people have no viable modifying political influence on its politicians when it comes to military adventures overseas.
In a despicable jingoistic attempt to gain support for this war, the UK 5th war in nine years, Miliband drew on his families experience in the Holocaust, what that had to do with a super power flying military back up to a rag tag army of rebels seemed to mystify even his own MP’s.
The Press Association has published the names of the MPs who voted against the motion and they are:
Tory John Baron (Basildon & Billericay)
Labour MPs Graham Allen (Nottingham North), Ronnie Campbell (Blyth Valley), Jeremy Corbyn (Islington North), Barry Gardiner (Brent North), Roger Godsiff (Birmingham Hall Green), John McDonnell (Hayes & Harlington), Linda Riordan (Halifax), Dennis Skinner (Bolsover), Mike Wood (Batley & Spen) Katy Clark (North Ayrshire and Arran) and Yasmin Qureshi (Bolton, south east)
Green Caroline Lucas (Brighton Pavilion)
SDLP MPs Mark Durkan (Foyle) and Margaret Ritchie (Down South). Labour's Katy Clark (North Ayrshire and Arran) and Ms Qureshi.
It is worth noting, not a single Lib Dem MP voted no! Nuff said.
