The 27th IB and 39th IB who have been zealously guarding the mining areas of Xstrata-SMI and its peripheries have suffered casualties in a series of sniping operations conducted by the combined force of Red fighters and Milisyang Bayan of the New People's Army under the Mt. Alip Operations Command in Davao del Sur and in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat.

On March 2, NPA snipers hit a column of the 27th IB in Brgy. Tagaytay, Magsaysay Davao del Sur who were conducting a military operation. Residents declared that there were at least four casualties who were brought to the hospital, passing by Brgy. Sucob, Columbio, Sultan Kudarat.

On March 3, about 10 am, an encounter was mounted by the milisyang bayan in Lam-agul, Brgy. Bacungan, Magsaysay against another column of the 27th IB. In the afternoon of the same date, the NPA snipers hit another column of the government troops in Brgy. Maligaya, Columbio, Sultan Kudarat

On March 9, another sniping operation was conducted against the marauding 39th IB soldiers in Brgy. Colonsabak, Matanao, Davao del Sur. The masses reported that there were two casualties on the side of the 39th IB.

In all these sniping and encounter operations, there was not a single casualty on the side of the Red fighters. The NPA, the Milisyang Bayan and with the strong support of the masses have vowed to mount stronger and more sustained attacks against the zealous and brutal guardians of the multinational mining company Xstrata-SMI, particularly the 27th IB, the 39th IB and the Task Force KITACOM.

For as long as this large-scale foreign company continues to exploit our natural resources and wreaks havoc on our people, the NPA and the revolutionary mass organizations will never stop to conduct tactical offensives against the company and all its instruments of repression and brutality in the AFP.
