The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Friday called for eliminating the risk of war as soon as possible and opening a new phase of national unification.

As the military tension on the Korean Peninsula is rising, the DPRK and South Korea should make joint efforts to eliminate the war risk as soon as possible and achieve stable peace. Otherwise, no issues can be settled correctly, the DPRK Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said in a commentary.

The main cause of the current tension on the peninsula is that South Korea is strengthening its military power against the DPRK and holding military exercises. South Korea must stop its military exercises unconditionally and not provoke the DPRK, the commentary said.

The article was released Friday after the DPRK's proposal to hold high-level inter-Korean military talks on Thursday, which South Korea has reportedly accepted on the same day.
