On behalf of the International Anti-imperialist and People’s Solidarity Coordinating Committee (IAPSCC) Manik Mukherjee, General Secretary, has released the following statement:

In a reckless misadventure South Korea has started live-fire war exercises near the border island of Yeonpyeong, which lies north of the Demilitarized Zone and close to the coast of the Democratic Republic of Korea. In this provocative and aggressive act South Korea has the full backing, if not instigation, by USA and other imperialist countries which ganged up together to block any agreement to resolve the crisis at the Security Council meeting. This heightens war tension in the area, and the danger of war breaking out between the two Koreas and involving the major powers has become very acute. Just a few days back USA had deliberately escalated the war tensions by publicly endorsing South Korea’s military exercises. All this is a part of the conspiracy of the imperialist camp to destabilize the socialist state of DPRK through military actions. The IAPSCC strongly condemns the heinous motive of the imperialists and demands that South Korea immediately stop its military exercises backed by the imperialist powers. It calls upon the anti-war, peace-loving people of the world to voice a strong and unified demand that the imperialist powers led by USA stop their nefarious activities in this region and withdraw their military presence from the Korean Peninsula and the surrounding seas to create the suitable conditions for the two Koreas to settle their differences through peaceful dialogues.
