National Meeting Held
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- A national meeting was held here Saturday to celebrate the 65th birthday of the Workers' Party of Korea.
General Secretary Kim Jong Il was present at the meeting.
Also present there were Kim Yong Nam, Choe Yong Rim and Ri Yong Ho, members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK, Kim Jong Un, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the WPK, members and alternate members of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, delegates to the national celebrations of the 65th birthday of the WPK, officials of party, armed forces and power organs, public organizations, ministries and national institutions, anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters, servicepersons of the KPA and the Korean People's Internal Security Forces, former unconverted long-term prisoners who are pro-reunification patriotic fighters, officials in the fields of science, education, culture and art, public health and media, bereaved families of revolutionary martyrs and working people.
Yang Hyong Sop, member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, said in a report delivered at the meeting that President Kim Il Sung's founding of the WPK on Oct. 10, Juche 34 (1945) was a solemn declaration that heralded the birth of a new revolutionary party guided by the Juche idea and an event of a special mention which provided a firm guarantee for the Korean people to confidently advance along the path of sovereignty, independence and socialism under the leadership of the powerful political staff.
The WPK's history of revolutionary struggle is shining with the immortal exploits Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il performed by wisely leading the country and its people along the road of victory and glory, the reporter noted, and went on:
