German Postcards (circa 1900) Show the Year 2000

This amazing collection of postcards from the dawn of the twentieth century depict what life would be like in the year 2000. These postcards feature sophisticated machinery that, during its creation were figments of imagination or being experimented by individuals using crude equipment.

Some are being realized as technology advances forward yet some are undergone experimentation or left as a mere idea of mere idealists trying to resist the impossible, the tide of ages. Roofed villages everyone?

These pictures were produced by Hildebrands (a leading German chocolate company of the time).

A Stroll on the Water
Featuring a bicycle that can move into the waters

The Moving Sidewalk
This idea was realized by the walkalator, usually seen in malls

House-Moving by Train
Some companies tried using trains in house moving, in the Philippines a Nipa hut was also moved by train from one site to another

Televised Broadcasting
Obviously, if it was been realized then every household has a projector-like device and be served as a "Television." But televised broadcasting, then an idea, became realized years after the advent of Telephone, Radio, and other factors contributed to the creation of Television.

Personal Flying Machines
During that time these pictures were made, man tried to experiment flight. From creating gliders to creating sophisticated machineries able to flight, the concept of a "Personal Flying Machine" was realized by the Wright Brothers, and of course, the Aeroplane itself.

Weather Control Machine
The concept is rather fictitious than to be realized although some tried to experiment trying to control weather or be used as a weapon.

Combined Ship and Railway Locomotive
Again, a fictitious kind of idea

Undersea Tourist Boats

Roofed Cities
Crazy isn't it? A "Roofed city?"

Personal Airships
Same as Personal Flying Machines...

This machine is realized with the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) being posted in Banks, Stores, even the Streets for surveillance.
