Pyongyang, April 25 (KCNA) -- The Korean People's Army (KPA) greets its 79th anniversary on Monday.
The armed forces, founded by President Kim Il Sung, won the anti-Japanese war and liberated the country, regaining the dignity and sovereignty of the nation and making it possible to build a powerful independent and sovereign state.
The KPA defeated the U.S. imperialists in the Fatherland Liberation War and defended the country. It has also guaranteed the Korean people's socialist revolution and construction with arms.
The KPA, which became regular armed forces with all branches of arms and services under the leadership of the President, creditably safeguarded the nation and socialism, smashing the U.S. imperialists' provocations like the spy ship "Pueblo", spy plane "EC-121" and Panmunjom incidents.
The army is now fully discharging its mission in defending socialism and building a thriving nation under the command of Kim Jong Il.
Thanks to the KPA, the Korean people, though the situation still remains strained, enjoy a peaceful life, building many modern industrial establishments and monuments throughout the country.
