in response to a 'gangster's death'

Violence erupted as rioting mobs in north London hurled petrol bombs against the riot police following the shooting of a man by Scotland Yard marksmen.

And with its wrath vented by the protesters, Patrol cars, a shop and a double-decker bus were set ablaze all in response to the death of Mark Duggan, who lived on the estate and was described last week by police sources as a ‘gangster’.

Duggan, 29, was shot and killed by the Metropolitan Police’s CO19 unit last Thursday evening after the minicab he was travelling in was stopped. There was an apparent ‘exchange’ of fire and a bullet was found lodged in a police radio.
